Understanding the Requirement

What Companies House identity verification actually requires

Since 18 November 2025, verifying your identity with Companies House has been a legal requirement for anyone who is a director, a Person with Significant Control (PSC), or a member of a UK limited liability partnership — regardless of where in the world they live.

Why this affects Indian directors specifically

The requirement, introduced under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023, applies equally to UK residents and overseas nationals. For directors based in the UK, the process is often straightforward through GOV.UK One Login using a UK biometric passport or driving licence.

Indian directors typically don't hold either of those documents, which makes the direct GOV.UK route impractical for most. The commonly used alternative is verification through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP), a firm registered with Companies House to carry out the identity check and confirm the result — which is the route this service is built around.

01

Legal requirement since Nov 2025

In force for all new appointments; existing directors have a staggered 2026 deadline.

02

Applies overseas

Being based in India does not exempt you from the requirement.

03

Tied to your confirmation statement

An unverified director can block the entire filing.

04

One code, many roles

Verify once, then link the code to every directorship you hold.

Who This Applies To

Any Indian national with a formal role in a UK company

Founders of UK Ltd companies based in India
Directors newly appointed to a UK company
People with Significant Control (PSCs)
Members of UK LLPs
NRI directors holding multiple UK directorships
Group company directors across India & UK entities
Before Your Appointment

Documents typically needed for verification

Having these ready and correctly matched to your Companies House record is what keeps the appointment itself quick and rejection-free.

Valid passport

Indian passport, current and not expired, with a clear photo page.

Proof of current address

A recent utility bill, bank statement, or similar, matching your Companies House record.

PAN card or Aadhaar (supporting ID)

Used where the provider requires a secondary identity document.

Company details

Company number(s) and your role — director, PSC, or LLP member — for each UK entity.

Confirmation statement date

So we can confirm your effective deadline across all your directorships.

A device with camera access

For the live video identity check, from a quiet, well-lit location.

How Verification Works

Five stages, coordinated entirely from India

01

Role & Deadline Check

We confirm every UK company where you hold a role and identify your earliest confirmation statement deadline.

02

Document Preparation

Your passport and address evidence are reviewed and formatted to the evidence standard expected of an overseas applicant.

03

Choosing the Route

We assess whether GOV.UK One Login is workable, or whether the ACSP route is more reliable for your documents.

04

Video Identity Check

The appointment is scheduled at a time that works from India and conducted over video call.

05

Code Issued & Linked

Your personal verification code is recorded and linked to every directorship, PSC, or LLP role you hold.

Two Ways to Verify

GOV.UK One Login vs. the ACSP route

Both lead to the same outcome — a personal Companies House verification code — but they suit different applicants.

UK Director Identity Verification from India — Walkthrough

Our compliance team walks through deadline checking, document preparation, choosing between GOV.UK One Login and the ACSP route, and completing the video identity check — the same five stages covered in the How It Works section above.

Transcript: This walkthrough explains Companies House identity verification for Indian directors in five stages. First, we confirm every UK company where you hold a directorship, PSC, or LLP role, and identify your earliest confirmation statement deadline. Second, we review your passport and address evidence against the standard expected of an overseas applicant. Third, we assess whether GOV.UK One Login is workable for your documents or whether the Authorised Corporate Service Provider route is more reliable. Fourth, we schedule a video identity check appointment at a time convenient from India. Fifth, once verification is confirmed, your personal verification code is recorded and linked to every role you hold, ready for your next confirmation statement.

Why Legalkarobar.com

Built for founders managing UK compliance from India

Most delays we see happen because a director assumed GOV.UK One Login would work with an Indian passport, or didn't realise their earliest deadline was tied to a UK co-director's confirmation statement rather than their own company. We map the whole picture before booking any appointment.

Deadline mapped across every role

We check every UK company you're linked to, not just the one you asked about, so nothing gets missed.

Right route, chosen up front

We don't let you attempt GOV.UK One Login with documents likely to be rejected — we steer you to the route that fits.

India-timezone scheduling

Appointments are booked at times that work for you, not squeezed into UK business hours.

What directors say after completing verification

I tried GOV.UK One Login first with my Indian passport and it didn't go anywhere. Legalkarobar.com moved me to the ACSP route and it was done within the week.

I'm a director on three UK entities and had no idea my deadline was tied to whichever one files its confirmation statement first. That alone was worth the call.

Frequently Asked

Director verification questions, answered

Yes. Under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023, identity verification became a legal requirement for all directors and PSCs from 18 November 2025, regardless of where they are based. Indian nationals serving as directors or PSCs of UK companies must complete verification in the same way as UK-resident directors.
GOV.UK One Login is built around UK-issued documents such as a biometric passport or photocard driving licence, which makes it difficult for most Indian nationals to complete directly. In practice, most Indian directors verify through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP), which can accept a wider range of documents including a foreign passport.
An ACSP is a firm registered with Companies House that is permitted to carry out identity verification on behalf of individuals and confirm the outcome directly. For Indian directors without UK identity documents, this is generally the more practical route, since the check can be completed over video from India rather than requiring in-person verification in the UK.
Existing directors and PSCs must complete verification by the time their company's next confirmation statement is due, within the transition period running to November 2026. If you hold directorships in more than one UK company, your effective deadline is the earliest confirmation statement date across all of them.
Typically a valid passport, proof of current residential address, and in some cases supporting identification like a PAN card or Aadhaar, depending on the verification route and provider requirements. We review your specific documents before the appointment to reduce the chance of a rejection.
No. Once verified, you are issued a single personal verification code linked to your identity, not to any one company. That same code is used across every directorship, PSC role, or LLP membership you hold, though it must be recorded against each role separately with Companies House.
Companies House can reject the company's confirmation statement, block new director appointments, and take enforcement action if a required individual has not verified their identity. A single unverified director is enough to prevent an otherwise complete confirmation statement from being filed.
Yes. The verification appointment, whether through GOV.UK One Login or an Authorised Corporate Service Provider, is designed to be completed remotely by video call. We schedule this at a time convenient from India and prepare your documents in advance so the appointment itself is straightforward.
